John P. DeyesoJohn P. DeYeso, 73, passed away so peacefully on July 14, 2020. Former civil service employee at KMCAS, former Warrant Officer with the US Coast Guard reserve (Sand Island), and former SGT (USMC). He is survived by his most beloved spouse Sharon and beloved sisters Veronica, Regina, and Christina, and brother Andrew and beloved brothers-in-law Chris and Carl Soares and sister in law Cindy Soares. John was predeceased by his sister Valeria (January 10, 2020) and his most beloved parents Nicholas and Vera DeYeso. Services to be held on July 14, 2021 at the Hawaii Railway Society (aka The Ewa Railroad). Please no flowers and any donations to be made to John's favorite charities (St. Jude Foundation or Ronald McDonald House).

Sue Sueko Nakashima Sue Nakashima passed away on September 11, 2020 at the age of 92. She was born in Kahuku on July 20, 1928 to Kisaku and Fusa Tsukamoto. She was the youngest of nine children.
Sue graduated from Kahuku High School in 1946 and Honolulu Business School. She married Brian Nakashima in 1950. They lived in Honolulu and then in Kailua, where they raised their four children. She worked at Canada Dry Bottling Co., the Kainalu Elementary School cafeteria, Thompson Insurance and Thompson-Budar Insurance. A faithful and active member of Kailua Christian Church since 1961, Sue served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Treasurer. She also helped to establish a Women's Ministry called Helping Hands, started a Wednesday morning Bible Study group in her home, and assisted in the development of a Foster Care Family Ministry and Outreach Center.
Sue was a great cook, especially of Japanese foods, but her favorite food was spam musubi. She actively participated in her children's and grandchildren's many activities and loved attending their sporting events. She and Brian enjoyed traveling the world together. They also took their children and grandchildren on numerous interisland, Alaska and mainland US trips. Many wonderful forever memories were made during these special times together as a family.
Sue was hard-working, devoted to her family and church, kind, generous, thoughtful, funny and loving and she will be greatly missed. She is now at peace in God's loving care.
Sue is survived by her husband of 70 years, Brian; four children: daughter, Laurene (Patrick) Young, and sons, Neal (Sandra), Wade (Iris) and Van (Regina) Nakashima; seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Jon Bowers) Oki, Liane, Michael Oki, Matthew (Kristy), Lindsey, Eryn and Lauryn; four great-grandchildren: Daniel, Katherine, Elias and Audrey; and five step-grandchildren and their families. She is predeceased by her parents whom she cared for in her home for several years before their deaths; her eight siblings; and her grandson, Brandon, whom she also helped care for.

A private service and interment will be held at
The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.
The family will hold a Celebration of her Life in the future.

Aiko OtomoAiko Otomo, 96, of Honolulu, passed away peacefully on August 29, 2020. Aiko was born in Lahaina, Maui. She is survived by brother Futoshi (Ruth) Otomo from Lahaina and many multi-generational nieces and nephews. Although she had no children, she had a very special "mother/daughter" relationship with her deceased niece Fae (Otomo) Togo. Aiko Otomo graduated from UH-Manoa with a degree in Education and began a long career with the State of Hawaii Department of Education. After classroom teaching and supervisory positions, Aiko pursued higher aspirations. In 1955-56, she attended New York University and received a MA (General Supervision in Elementary School). She continued her teaching/ administrative career in Hawaii and advanced within the DOE, retiring as a Deputy District Superintendent, Honolulu District. Education was her life's passion and it continued into retirement. She was an exemplary mentor to many of her family and friends. Aiko traveled extensively and enjoyed a variety of senior classes in the community. In retirement, she wrote a telling memoir and in the last paragraph she states, "Life has been good to me." LTC WILLIAM KU TAI, USA, RET. Married to Elaine Aiko Markham (Roosevelt High School 1948 and Univ. of HI Teacher's College) on October 28, 1950. Bill entered the US Army in 1951. Served in Korea, Hawaii, Fort Benning (Georgia) Infantry Officer Candidate School, Fort Ord (California) Training Brigade, Fort Rucker (Alabama) Army Flight School, 25th Infantry Division at Schofield Barracks (Hawaii), 2nd Tour in Korea with the 7th Infantry Division, and Graduate of the Advanced Officer's Class at Fort Benning (Georgia). Assigned to Fort Knox (Kentucky) Training Brigade as a Battalion Commander and General Staff Officer. Assigned to the 3th Infantry Division at Worms and Manheim (Germany) as a Unit Commander and Staff Officer. Appointed the Commander of the USA Recruiting Command Headquarters (Salt Lake City, Utah) and responsible for the states of Utah, Idaho, Montana, Eastern Oregon, and Nevada recruiting stations. Assigned to Vietnam as a Plans, Training, and Security Staff Officer. Retired from the U.S. Army as the Commander of the Island of Hawaii U.S. Army's Pohakuloa Training Area. While assigned to Pohakuloa, Colonel Tai served as the U.S. Army's Survivors' Assistance Officer for the next of kin for the Island of Hawaii during the Vietnam Conflict.
Bill's Tutu Wahine was Mary Kaumealani who was born and married in Waiohinu in the district of Ka'u on the island of Hawaii. His father was also born there.
Bill received the following awards from the U.S. Army - the Enlisted Good Conduct Medal, the Army Aviator Wings Medal, Combat Medals for combat in Korea and Vietnam, Army Commendation Medals for his assignments at Fort Knox and the USA Recruiting Command Headquarters, the U.S. Army Legion of Merit Medal,and the Bronze Star.
Bill retired from the U.S. Army on 1 March 1971. He then returned to his home island of O'ahu and subsequently relocated to Veradale/Spokane, WA with his wife Elaine to be nearer to their mo'opuna. They lived there until Elaine's passing after which time he returned home to Hawaii and settled in at Pohai Nani in Kane'ohe.
Bill and Elaine's Ohana: Kenneth Tai (Lola) - Damien High School and Gonzaga University; Kathleen Kalehua Tai - St. Francis High School and Chapman University; Keoni August Tai - Damien High School, Univ of Hawaii, and Sorbonne University in Paris, France; and Kurtis Kaimi Tai (Marie) - lolani High School, Tufts University, and USAF Capt.; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Sisters: Linda Mae Chang and Wilma Hokama.

lnurnment will be held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2020 at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.

Pugera GanapathyDr. Vinoo Ganapathy, 63, passed away on September 6, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Mina Ganapathy, and his two children, Varun Ganapathy and Tara Ganapathy, esq. Dr. Ganapathy graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College in India, and after serving in the Indian air force for 5 years, moved to the United States, where he practiced medicine for over 30 years. Vinoo ultimately co-founded Kunia Urgent Care, of which he was the Chief Executive Officer. He was an avid science fiction fan and a talented cricket player, having played in high school, college and later, the Honolulu Cricket Club.

Dr. Ganapathy will be missed as a wonderful father, husband, and caring physician. He will always live on in our hearts.
