David Mannie Nakoa (May 18, 1937 - January 31, 2019) spent most of his life on O'ahu, Hawai'i. Mannie passed away peacefully and gracefully at his daughter's home in Waimea on Hawai'i Island. Mannie was born and raised in Kahalu'u, Hawai'i. He graduated from Castle High School. He immediately joined the Army where he learned to be a heavy equipment mechanic. His work eventually took him all over the world. Mannie was born to Maggie Apuna and David Nakoa. He is survived by his three children, David Keawe Nakoa, Shawn Maile Nakoa and Kalani Nakoa. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Michael, Jamie, Mahina, Kana'i, Keawe, Hainoa; and one great-grandchild, Ka'io. He is also survived by Lisa Ho'okano-Holly and countless loving ohana. Prior to, and during Mannie's illness, he was able to spend sweet time with all of his children and many other family members. Mannie loved listening to and singing old Hawaiian songs; cooking and eating Hawaiian and Chinese food, laughing with friends and family and enjoying a cold beer. Mannie quietly touched the lives of so many people with his big smile and generosity of spirit. He maintained his trademark sense of humor all the way to the end. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Valley of the Temples, 47-200 Kahekili Highway, Kaneohe, HI 96744. The family requests either flowers or donations to Hospice of North Hawaii.
