$nameHARRIET HARUE NAKAMURA SAITO Harriet went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at the age of 87. Harriet was born on March 25, 1927. She was the seventh child of Sontoku and Kami Nakamura of Ewa Plantation. She was predeceased by her husband Takeo whom she married in 1949. She worked as a pattern grader for several companies including Nalii Fashion, Jane M. and Xcel Hawaii. Harriet enjoyed working with her hands and had several hobbies including ikebana, embroidery and crochet. A gifted seamstress, she sewed and then gave away or donated most of her handiwork such as beautiful quilts and zabutons (Japanese cushions). Harriet also remained a devoted and active servant at her church, Hawaii Kai United Church of Christ, until shortly before her passing. Harriet is survived by her son Dale, daughter in law Aileen, granddaughter Jennifer Saito-Zipfel, grandson David, five brothers: Sonsei Nakamura, Raymond S. Nakamura, Jack S. Nakamura, James K. Nakamura, Roy Y. Nakamura and one sister Betty N. Hayashi. Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Hosoi Garden Mortuary. Visitation 9am; service 10am. Interment will be on Monday November 17, 2014 at the Punchbowl National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

REX WHITNEY ALSUP Rex Alsup, 90, of Honolulu passed away on 11/2/2014 at Hi'Olani Care Center where he had received exceptional care. He was born in 1924 in Wichita, Kansas to James Martin and Golden Dorsey Alsup. He moved to Honolulu in the early 1930's with his parents. Rex attended Punahou and went on to graduate from Stanford University after WWII. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was stationed on Oahu. Rex was an Investment Advisor with Dean Witter until his retirement in 1989. He was an avid tennis player and a member of the Beretania Tennis Club. He continued playing tennis into his late 80's. Rex married Lydia McClelland in 1968. They enjoyed traveling around the world, mainly on cruise ships. Rex was preceded in death by his wife Lydia in 2008. He is survived by his four children, Mark Alsup, Gary Alsup, Jo Caissie and Jamie Rood; six grandchildren, Jennifer Hoover, Christopher Rood, Holly Rood, Stuart Alsup, Natalie Alsup and Spencer Alsup; two great grandchildren, Ann Peyton Hoover and Avery Hoover. A private family service will be held at a later date.
