Eugene Bennet FelicianoEugene "Gino" B. Feliciano, known to ocean-sport friends as the "Mayor of Makapuu," died at 69 in his favorite waters while bodysurfing April 30.

Gino was born March 1, 1952 to Henry and Clothilda Feliciano. Except for National Guard duty on the Big Island and the Mainland in his youth, he lived his entire life on Oahu.

He was a grounds maintenance worker for Sea Life Park and other Windward properties, still working part-time in "retirement" with the plants and outdoor settings he loved. But he took every chance to be with his many waterman friends in the ocean from Sandy Beach throughout Waimanalo, especially Makapuu.

Gino had at least three families. Of his siblings, he is survived by brothers: Shannon Feliciano and Eduardo Luna; sisters: Elizabeth Gaylord, Geraldine Young, and Dee Ann Weber. He is also survived by friend and former wife Loki Feliciano.

Gino moved in with a group of young people more than 40 years ago, and lived in the Knox-Evans household thereafter. Survivors include two children he helped raise as their "Uncle Braddah," Rockey and Mickey, along with their parents John and Mary Alice.

His largest family lives on the Waimanalo beaches and waters - Josh, David, Eric, many others. All his families will miss him.

A friend remembered: "Gino, more than anybody I know, lived for the day. He was fully present for his job, and certainly joyfully present in the water. He kept your household safe and level, like an anchor hidden below the boat."

Services will be private.

Edna Chieko (Koreyasu) Yamane-23052021

Edna Chieko (Koreyasu) Yamane 100, of Aiea, passed peacefully in her favorite place in the world, home, on February 23, 2021. Born in Kaaawa she lived a carefree childhood in the country walking home from Benjamin Parker Elementary to where Hoomaluhia Botanical Gardens is today. She would talk about picking plums and whatever she could find to eat on her long walks home from school. Swimming near the old ironwood trees on the beach at Kaaawa was her favorite pastime when she wasn't working on the farm raising peanuts with her family. Playing on Kualoa Ranch, since that's where her brother worked most of his life as a ranch foreman, was another fond memory of hers. She had fondest memories of walking up to a special mountain apple tree way into Kaaawa valley where they would pick the huge fruit and fill their stomachs. She shared vivid memories of Mr. Francis Morgan always being so generous giving them candies when they played and boxes of fruit during special occasions. Those were her happiest days of her life.
Furthering her education was her dream and despite the principal asking her parents to approve, her father felt her role was to stay at home and help around the house. She always wondered what she could have become if she had furthered her education. She went on to tailoring school and was blessed with becoming a talented seamstress since that was the only option her father gave her and agreed because it was so much better than working on the peanut farm! She worked for many muumuu factories, Shaheen and Tohki Fashions to name a few, but ended up at Liberty House, later Macy's alterations department during her final days of employment. She had her following of devoted customers who were saddened when she retired.
Edna was a very loving, dedicated and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunty and friend to all who knew and loved her. She sacrificed going out with friends or doing fun things women normally do to care for the family, working, cooking and cleaning, which left her no time. Besides being a talented seamstress, Edna was a great cook, always looking for new and better recipes to try. Her greatest joy in life was to cook and raise her 4 children to become a close-knit family. It was her final prayer before being accepted to heaven.
Our family wishes to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the outstanding support that was received from her many caregivers, Malama Ola, and especially her last caregiver, Maraea Laranang, who never gave up and brought peace back into her spirit.
She is survived by daughter Kathleen Maeda; sons: Calvin (Janey) Yamane, Roger (Brenda) Yamane, Brian (Myrna) Yamane. She is also survived by four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

"You may be gone from our sight but
you are never gone from our hearts."

A Private blessing and scattering of ashes were held on her 101st birthday, May 19, 2021. The family is requesting no monetary gifts.
