Secily Malia GraySecily Malia Gray went home to be with the Lord on January 4, 2020 with her husband by her side. Malia is survived by her husband Todd, son Akili & daughter Meleana; parents, Lyman & Delleen Meyer; sisters: Danene (Pono), Kaleinani (Shannon(d); brother Kaniau (Mary) & numerous nieces & nephews. A life-long hula dancer, she embodied the essence & vibrancy of the mele she danced. Malia was a proud alumna of St. Andrew's Priory & Pacific University. She so enjoyed cheering for her children & encouraging them to excel in all their endeavors. Malia loved the Lord & was active in her church community & served in several leadership roles. Her heart was to share Jesus with all she encountered. She made numerous friends with her radiant smile & loving nature. Malia was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. We keep her memory alive by remembering to smile - aloha kekahi i kekahi. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at Anchor Church, 45-815 Po'okela Street, Kane'ohe. Paul Charles TopalianTOPALIAN, Paul Charles, 72, passed away peacefully at home in Kailua, Hawaii, on Friday, January 10, 2020, surrounded by family. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts (MA), September 27, 1947; grew up in Watertown and Belmont, MA, graduating from Belmont High School class of '66. Loving and devoted husband to Solinuu Poueu Topalian and father of Lucia Makerita Topalian. Brother of Virginia and her husband Berj Najarian of Waltham, MA; and younger sister Irene and her husband Michael Hicks of Belmont, MA. Adoring uncle to many nieces and nephews. Son of the late Louis Topalian, an Armenian genocide survivor, and Marguerite Barberian. Grandson of Yeghia and Armenouhi Barberian, and Boghos and Nora Topalian, also survivors of the Armenian genocide. Graduated summa cum laude from Norwich University in 1971 and commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of LTC in 1996. He had two graduate degrees - a master of science in Business Management from Salve Regina University and a master of arts in National Security Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. With 30 years of experience as an intelligence professional, he had extensive overseas experience in Asia and Europe with the U.S. military and several U.S. government agencies; and was awarded the Intelligence Collector Award by the US Intelligence Community and the Legion of Merit Distinguished Medal by the US Army. Published author of "Tradecraft Primer: A Framework for Aspiring Interrogators," a primer used as the foundation for a new course in the Criminal Justice program at Norwich University - the last service he provided to future leaders of the US military and intelligence community. He was deeply proud of the home he and his wife designed and built together in Kailua. He is survived by his wife of 35 years - Solinuu, and daughter Lucia - a teacher at St. Anthony's Kailua, and many adoring nephews and nieces whose lives were positively impacted by a wonderful man, now our guardian angel. We love you Paul. Funeral services will be on Friday, February 7, 2020 (General Visitation at 9am; Eulogy at 9:30am; Mass at 9:45am), St. Anthony's Church, 148 Makawao St., Kailua, Hawaii, followed by lunch in the parish hall. Burial at 1pm at the Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe. of Annapolis, MD., passed away on May 11, 2019. Born in Ashville N.C. on February 16, 1926. He served as a Gunners Mate in the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Frederick Funston (APA-89) in the Pacific Theater. He worked for the US Coast and Geodetic Survey as a cartographer/photogrametrist. Jet loved sailing, wintering in Hawaii, was an avid reader and a long time Washington Redskins football fan and a Washington Nationals baseball fan. His memberships included Elks Lodge 622 and the Fleet Reserve Association Branch 22. Survived by wife, Lamela Holt Battley, daughters, Cynthia Rincon of Atlanta, GA., and Melissa Battley; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his daughter Shari Newton. Private services will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl.

Dr. Se Mo Suhpassed away peacefully on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the age of 89 in San Jose, California. He was surrounded by his entire family - Young Shim, his beloved wife of 54 years; sons Philip and Timothy, daughters-in-law Michele and Mary, grandchildren: Caitlin, Jonathan, Matthew, Sarah and Rachel, and best friend of over 70 years, Dr. John Joon-Sik Hong. The entire family had a wonderful last Christmas together in San Jose. In addition to being a prominent and well-respected physician in South Korea, Dr. Suh was well known in the Korean American community in Hawaii and on the mainland. He was an active community leader who dedicated his life to helping others. Dr. Suh's Christian faith was also an important part of his life. He was a founding member of the Alpha Korean United Church in Toronto, Canada and an elder of the Korean Christian Church in Honolulu, Hawaii. Dr. Suh taught generations of physicians as a professor at the Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, Korea and the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine. Dr. Suh was the first Korean physician certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in the United States and the first Korean language speaking primary care physician in Hawaii. Staying true to his passion for learning and teaching, Dr. Suh donated his body to the John A. Burns School of Medicine - University of Hawaii, to train future doctors. A Memorial Service will be held at the Aiea Korean United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 15, 2020. Family visitation: 10:00 a.m.; Memorial service: 11:00 a.m. No flowers, please. Cynthia Fumie Yamane, 68, of Honolulu, passed away on Dec. 15, 2019. Her last moments were spent with her family at her home in Nuuanu. She battled Parkinson's disease for 20 years. Cynthia was born on May 17th, 1951. Her parents were the late Joan and James Yamane. She attended Roosevelt High School and graduated from U.H. at Manoa. She worked as a manager at R.C. Drive In. It was a family business. After it closed, she went to work at Liberty House downtown. She had numerous awards for outstanding employee. She retired after her illness got worse. She loved animals and always took care of several cats at a time. She was a good cook, baker, and loved to do crafts. She is survived by her brother, Fred Yamane (Suzanne), and sister, Lynette Pakele (Len). Also, niece Traci Beitzel (Dean), nephews Garreth Yamane, Lee Pakele, and Larin Pakele (Tomomi). She is also survived by aunts Helen Ginoza (Edward) and Sally Tokunaga. Also numerous cousins. She was especially close to cousin Susan Ichimasa who helped with her care. GORDON K.K. TOMOur loving Dad, Gordon K.K. Tom, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2020 surrounded by our Mom, Judy, and all of us; we are his legacy. Richard (Trudy), Gordean (Peter) Gutierrez, Patrick (Maria), Jennifer (Michael) Siracusa, Kathleen (Jay) Bode and Malia (David) Sedlak along with 11 grandchildren and 4 great- grandchildren. A '57 graduate of Maryknoll High School, he retired from the Honolulu Fire Department as a captain after 32 years of service. While with the Fire Department, he held various elected positions within the Hawaii Fire Fighters Association for a period of 26 years. After retirement, he worked for Aloha Airlines, then Vacations Hawaii to get his Vegas fix. He called everyone his friend. He generously donated his body to the John A. Burns School of Medicine. A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, February 6th, at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Kailua. Visitation at 8:15 AM, HFD Pass in Review at 9:30, Eulogy at 9:45 and Mass at 10 with lunch to follow in the parish hall.

LEROY (LEE) CLAY BUTLER

LEROY (LEE) CLAY BUTLERPassed away peacefully on January 3, 2020 at Arcadia where he had lived for nearly 30 years. He was 100 years old. Lee was born May 29, 1919 in Truman, Minnesota and grew up in St. Charles, MN where he lived with his brother Frank, and parents Bartlett and Pearl Butler. After completing high school, he became an athletic coach in the Works Progress Administration's Recreation Program. In September 1940, he enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard. Four months later he was mobilized into active federal service by a Presidential Proclamation issued by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. In August 1941 he arrived on Kodiak Island, Alaska where he served 3 years. After the war he settled in Winona, MN where he worked for the Winona National and Savings Bank. Sometime during his employment there, he came under the watchful eye of Grace Watkins King, the heiress of Watkins Products and co-owner of the bank with her husband. Lee became her personal assistant. After the death of her husband, Mrs King moved to Hawaii and took Lee with her. He continued to manage her personal business until her death in 1975. Lee met and married Ann Byrne Moranz in May 1965. They enjoyed numerous cruises and traveled to the East Coast to visit with both of their families in Philadelphia and Florida. Ann Butler predeceased Lee in 1997 after 32 years of marriage. He is survived by his step-son Andrew J. Speese and step-daughter Ann S. Giese, who both live on Oahu. He is also survived by his nephews Frank and Mark Butler, 4 grandchildren, Kevin and Andrea Speese, Samuel Giese and Erin Garcia; 5 great-grandchildren and numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Lee is also survived by his long time friend, Elaine Stroka. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. There will be a Celebration of Life at Arcadia on February 5. Visitation at 0930 and service at 1000. He was buried in a private ceremony at the Hawaii Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe.
