Cirilo Gallarde QuimingCirilo "Boy" Gallarde Quiming, 72, died peacefully at home on January 3, 2020. He was born on November 6, 1947, in Anonas, Urdaneta, Pangasinan, in the Philippines. On January 11, 1976, Cirilo married Genoveva Patacsil Quiming. They raised two children, daughter Genecir Joan and son Gary. He came to Hawaii in 1973, and as an immigrant, he understood the value of hard work, proudly starting his own landscaping company. He had a passion for cooking, playing cards and jokes on his family, and singing karaoke. Ever true to his landscaper profession, his signature karaoke song was "The Green Green Grass of Home." He is survived by his wife and children, along with his sisters Hipolita Doria and Magdalena Manglallan, brother Roberto, and many nieces and nephews. He is reunited with his mother Narcisa, father Doroteo, sister Dominga Jacob, and brothers Remegio, Bernabe, and Pedro. The wake will be on Feb. 5, 2020, 5:30 pm, at Valley of the Temples' Lower Chapel. On Feb. 6, 2020, at St. Joseph Church in Waipahu, there will be visitation (10:00 am) and mass (11:00 am), followed by burial at Valley of the Temples (1:00 pm). Maybelle HelfrichMaybelle Margery Hughes Helfrich, 92 of Kaneohe, Oahu was born on November 10, 1927 to Robert and Alice Walker Hughes in Pu'unene, Maui and was born into eternal life on December 28, 2019 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Services honoring her will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at St. Anthony's of Padua Catholic Church at 148 Makawao Street, Kailua, Hawaii with visitation at 9:00 a.m. and mass at 10 a.m. Aloha attire, reception to follow. Maybelle graduated from Maui High School in 1945 and went on to study at Maryland College for Women. She returned to Maui to work for Kahului Railroad Company and Alexander & Baldwin, then moved to Oahu and worked for United Airlines in the Passenger Service Department. Maybelle married, raised a family and returned to Chaminade University to obtain a Bachelor's degree with a certification in Montessori Early Childhood Education. She worked in several Montessori schools and volunteered as a homebound minister for the church and a counselor for the Pearson Foundation Pregnancy Problem Center. Maybelle was a kind and generous soul who lived to make others happy. She embodied the Aloha Spirit and throughout her life showed others what it meant. She was devoted to her Church, her family and her friends. Her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews and many friends will remember her with great fondness and affection as a singularly loving and caring person. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Philip, and her children Kathleen, Karen Jewell, (James), Margaret, and grandchildren Anya Grace and Philip James Jewell, brother Donald Hughes, sister Nevis Delaveaga, and numerous nieces and nephews. Maybelle was preceded in death by her son Philip Edwin, her parents Robert Edwin and Alice Walker Hughes, sister Barbara Cannon, and brothers Robert H. and Richard E. Hughes.
