Esther Giles MurphyOn May 2, 2019, a fierce spirit left this world. Esther took her last breath in her beloved Kane'ohe home, in view of the Ko'olau Range, holding the hands of her daughters. Though petite in appearance, Mama was a big presence. Her quick wit, intelligence and strong independent streak along with her trademark sense of humor will be sorely missed. We are so grateful to have many memorable examples of her character and courage. Born in Florida in 1923, Esther traveled the country before settling in California with her family. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, she moved to Hawaii in 1970. She then worked downtown at Hawaii Business Machines and enjoyed a drink or two at Territorial Tavern. She was delighted to be 'tutu' to great-grandchildren, Mahealani and Keahilani, over the last few years. Esther is survived by 3 children, Stephen, Shannon and Dana, 6 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren as well as her brother, John Giles (Charlotte) and numerous nieces and nephews. She had a long life but it wasn't long enough for us. Aloha nui loa mama. Services pending. Arrangements Provided By: Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary
