LESLIE AUKAI OPULAUOHOFebruary 29, 1936 - September 26, 2018 Leslie Aukai Opulauoho, 82, passed September 26, 2018 peacefully, in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Born in Kaka'ako, and raised in Papakolea, O'ahu, he was a graduate of McKinley High School '56, Church College '74, and an Air Force veteran. A retired public school guidance and outreach counselor who worked for the State of Hawaii for almost 25 years, the majority of his career was spent counseling students at Dole Middle School. An avid musician, ukulele player and vocalist, he participated in McKinley High School's Karaoke Competitions in the early 2000's. An all-around sportsman, he was especially fond of football, volleyball, golf and bowling. He will long be remembered for his steadfast support and love for his family, his calm demeanor and quiet temperament, and for his easy laugh and jovial sense of humor. He is survived by daughter Leslie Lynn Opulauoho, sons Lee Keli'i Opulauoho and Lane Kaiwi Opulauoho, and a grandson Miles Ikaika Opulauoho. He is predeceased by loving wife of 49 years, Marjorie T. Opulauoho, mother Emily Kamalolo Opulauoho, father William K. Opulauoho, brother William K. Opulauoho, Jr. and sister Muriel (Millie) Opulauoho Chan. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at the First Chinese Church of Christ, 1054 S. Toshiaki Tanaka94, of Honolulu passed away on February 20, 2019. He was a proud veteran of the 442nd Medics "Go For Broke." He took pride in receiving his Congressional Gold Medal, the highest award bestowed on American citizens for his role in the 442nd Medics. He started and operated Boulevard Saimin in Kalihi from 1956 until he retired. Today, Tanaka Saimin is named in his honor. He was passionate about plants. He once operated B. Tanaka Orchid Nursery with his father, Busaku. He was an avid collector and propagator of exotic plants, which he acquired on his various travels around the world. In his final days, he participated and enjoyed his friends at the Salt Lake Luk Tung Kuen exercise group. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Mitsuyo; and daughters, Joyce Tanaka-Shields and Joan (Paul) Watanabe; brothers, Charles (Barbara), Albert (Mildred) and Walter (Ruth); sisters, Hiroko Kawasaki and Janice (Chuji) Tanino; and by his three grand- children and six great-grandchildren.
