Jackie is survived by her husband Bert; daughter Shelby; son Brandon; mother Shizu Nakamura; siblings Amy (David) Usui, Della (Mike) Hable, Lester Nakamura, Susan (Kevin) Lau; nephew Zach Lau and niece Diane Usui. Harry Susumu Sumida79, of Kailua, passed away peacefully at home October 12, 2018. He retired in 2012 from operating Sumida's Auto Body & Painting in Kailua, which he started in 1964 at the age of 25. Harry was respected and well known in the community for his commitment to providing quality work at a fair price. He worked long hours, often 7 days a week, yet always made time to "talk story" with his customers, offering advice on a wide range of topics including "Eat Right 4 Your Type", real estate investments, political matters and financial strategies. Harry will be remembered for his work ethic, his generosity, his quirky sense of humor and the love for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Yutaka and Masako Sumida and his sister Evie (Herbert) Yokoyama. Surviving are his wife of 36 years Paula Sumida of Kailua; his children Scott, Bobby, Cindy Sumida, Amy (Preston) Ridela & step- daughter Angela Castellanos. Sisters Margaret Oshiro, Katherine (Hiroji) Taki & Brother Larry (Jackie) Sumida, 9 Grandchildren, 1 Great-Grandchild, cousins, nieces, nephews and the many friends he made during his life. Memorial services for Harry will be on Thursday November 1, 2018 at Hawaiian Memorial Park Mortuary. Visitation from 4:30 - 8:00 pm with services to begin at 5:30 pm. He retired from the City and County of Honolulu, Department of Transportation Services after 38 years and was also a World War II veteran. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Dorothy; sons Leslie (Jann) Watanabe and Lance (Colleen) Watanabe; daughter Penney Nakamura; brother Sadao (Betty) Watanabe; and 5 grandchildren Ryne and Brett Watanabe, Lyndee (Jesse) Park, Travis Nakamura, and Dane Watanabe. Robin Miki SantosIt is with great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Rob Santos. He passed on Saturday, October 6th 2018 in Aiea, Hawaii. He was born on February 4th 1962 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Charles and Betsy Santos. Rob was the eldest child of 3. Rob graduated from Kamehameha Schools Kapalama Class of 1980, then attended Foothill Jr. College in California. He married his high school sweetheart, Chantal (Malu) Chow on May 26th 1984 in Honolulu, Hawaii. They shared a loving marriage for 34 plus years. Rob adored his son, two daughters and six grandchildren. He took great satisfaction in being involved in his grandchildren's day to day activities and watching them grow. Rob enjoyed a full life and deeply loved his family. He was the owner and service operator of Pacific Gloves & Service for the past 21 years. He was dedicated to coaching the youth and gave much of his time to Kamehameha Schools JV & Intermediate Football, track & field and weight lifting programs for the past 33 plus years. He also devoted his passion and knowledge of the sport to coaching the Pearl City Chargers Pop Warner team and Pac 5 Intermediate Football. We will fondly remember Rob as a gentle man with a generous heart. He was a selfless man that gave of his time, dedication and kind spirit to many. He will be forever missed, but not forgotten. He is survived by his wife Chantal "Malu" his son Kahekili (Dani) Santos, daughters Keani (Elliott) Purcell and Kanani (Johnny Gentry) Santos. Grandchildren: Taimane, Tauali'i, Malie, Kamakoa, Kamaluhia and Makena. Brother Brian (Jill) Santos and Sister Jana Lopez. Many Nieces and Nephews. John Fernandez Serrao, Sr.John Fernandez Serrao Sr., 84, passed away at his residence on October 1, 2018. Born in Kaka'ako on May 14, 1934, was a graduate of Farrington High School, Class of 1952. John retired after 26 years of service with the Honolulu Police Department, soon after with his late wife Althea started Poakalani Hawaiian Quilt Designs. John is recognized as a world renowned Master Hawaiian Quilt Designer who authored several Hawaiian Quilt pattern books. Both John and his wife were instrumental for revival of the art of Hawaiian Quilting during the 1970's Hawaiian Renaissance. He is survived by sons; Joseph Serrao and John Serrao Jr of Las Vegas, Daughters; Raelene (Aaron) Correia, Cissy Serrao, grand- daughters; Aalene Correia, Thea Correia, Sister, Josephine (David) Huddy. Roslyn Hartnacke BrodieOn October 14, 2018, Roslyn Hartnacke Brodie passed away while surrounded by loved ones. She was born May 11, 1943 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 1969 Roslyn earned a master's degree in education from Michigan State University. Her parents gave her a vacation to Waikiki as a graduation present. Lynn fell in love with the islands and moved to Oahu. In 1971 she was hired by Farrington High School as a Physical Education instructor and swim coach. There she created the first and only Gymnastics program at Farrington High School which earned her a "Teacher of the Year" award. Over the years she earned a reputation as a great coach and mentor to her students. One of her greatest joys was being part of the lives of her beloved students as they became successful members of the community. In 1976 Lynn married the love of her life, Sandy Brodie. In 1980, they adopted their daughter Kimmee. Sandy's two sons from a previous marriage, Alex and Peter joined Lynn, Sandy and Kimmie on numerous adventures to Alaska and Kauai. In 2001 Lynn retired from the Hawaii Unified School District and she and Sandy moved to Princeville, Kauai. There they built a beautiful house that became the site of many memorable visits by friends and family. She became an active member of Kauai's Northshore community as a docent for Na Aina Kai Gardens, guide for the Waioli Mission House, member of the Northshore Dance Club, Hanalei Canoe Club, and local Hula Halau. Roslyn is survived by her husband, Alexander "Sandy" Brodie; daughter, Kimmie Brodie; sons Alexander Brodie and Peter Brodie; daughters-in-law Kristin Brodie and Kellie Brodie; son-in-law Shawn Balsdon; granddaughters, Blair Resare, Karoline, Julia, and Lela Brodie; great grandsons Sam, Liam, and Noah; and numerous other relatives and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date.

Thomas Patrick Heffernan Sr.70 of both Hau'ula and Laie passed away on Oct 16th, 2018. Also known as "Unko Tommy," "Coach Tommy," or "Heff," was born in Kahuku to John Edgar Heffernan and Hannah Kaikena Kawa'a. Tommy was a 1967 Kahuku High School graduate known for his stellar athletic abilities in football and one of the greatest quarterbacks ever to come out of Kahuku and the State of Hawaii. Tommy is a Vietnam veteran, retired Corrections officer, and football coach for over 40 years to Kahuku, St. Louis, and other high school football programs. Tommy is survived by his wife Merren Au together with their children: Hi'i (Eldon), Bryson (Kalei), Micah (Eden), Jarrett (Shanyn), and Skyler (Brady) and survived by his ex-wife Naomi, together with their children: Tommy (Kea), Clinten "Bu," Matthew, Denice (Frank), Kanani (Thomas) and Kalani (Inoke). Tommy is also survived by his siblings: Billy Long, Roger, Judah, and Peter Heffernan, Arthur Brickwood, Rene Takemoto, Cheryl Ornellas and his 26 grandchildren. Celebration of Life will be held at the Kahuku High School football field on Sunday, November 4th. Visitation from 3-6pm with service to follow from 6-7:30pm. Casual/comfortable and/or Kahuku Red Raider attire. Burial to commence on Monday, November 5th at Hauula Cemetery at 10am. Funeral arrangements provided by: Ballard Family Moanalua Mortuary.

GEORGE NAKALEKA June 12, 1954 - October 8, 2018 On October 8, 2018, George Nakaleka "Happy" Kamakahi II was called home to glory with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Born in Honolulu, and a resident of Hilo, his passing occurred while on visit to Las Vegas. Deeply loved and cherished by all whose lives he touched, he is survived by his beautiful wife of 41 years, Gail Susan Kamakahi. His children are Gabriel (Christina) Kamakahi of Hilo, Given Kamuela Kamakahi of Hilo, and Gaynell (Abraham) Jordano of Las Vegas, NV. He is additionally blessed with 11 grandchildren. Pastor George's surviving siblings are: Georgette (Aaron) Hanson of Washington; Annette (Miguel) Toro of Alaska; Paulette (Rudy) Reyes of Maui; Tonette (Gene) Gumapac of Honolulu; David Kamakahi of Washington; Raymond (Beatrice) Kamakahi of Kauai; Jonathan (Loscia) Kamakahi of Las Vegas; Phuong-Nga Kamakahi-Kapaona of Oahu; and Thao Kamakahi-Watson. His family also extends to numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pastor George lived an amazingly significant and purposeful life. Called to ministry at the young age of 27, he founded Thy Word Ministries Faith Center of Hawaii in Hilo, together with his beloved wife, Gail Kamakahi. During his lifetime, Pastor George established churches in Saipan, Honolulu, Kona, Ka'u, Las Vegas, Waimea, and Waikoloa. He opened three orphan homes in India, which are still ongoing today. Ordained with Faith Christian International, he traveled steadfastly as a missionary throughout Melanesia, helping to establish new churches in Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, and New Caledonia. His work in the mission field also took him into Polynesia - Samoa, Tahiti, and most recently to Tonga, where he ministered together with Gail, in October of 2017. In addition to being a husband, father, and apostle, Pastor George simply loved people. He ministered to the Hawaii County Police Department as their Chaplain. He was an active member of Cruise Hawaii classic car enthusiasts, and Rock N Roll motorcycle club. And together with the love of his life, Gail, he founded the Joseph's Storehouse Outreach Center in downtown Hilo, where his legacy and passion for people continues to live on. On November 3, 2018, a Celebration of Life will be held at Dodo Mortuary in Hilo. Visitation will be from 8:30am to 10:00am. Service will be held from 10:00am to 11:30am.

Born in Ewa hospital and raised in Waianae, David joined the U.S. Navy and left Hawaii at age 17 to become a "SeaBee" and retired at the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. David later returned to work via Civil Service at Pearl Harbor's Public Works Department. He is survived by his children Julie & Earl Crawford, daughter-in-law Tracy Crawford, grandchildren Chloe, Zoey & Kayla Crawford, Sister Alice (Ernest) Theodore, and many nieces and nephews.
