RUTH NAUPAKA HELENIHI
It is with a tearful sadness that the family of Ruth Naupaka Helenihi, announces her passing on May 7, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was born on June 10, 1965 to Alexander M. Spillner and Winona Yin Matsuzaki in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her family celebrated her first "heavenly birthday" a few days ago. Ruth was preceded in death by her father Alexander and two brothers, Wade Kalani and Llewellyn Kaimana Spillner. She is survived by her five children, Emmett Kaulanakauanoe, Clifford Kamakaniokekai, Sanoe Kawaionouiokalani, and twins, Xandra-Li KapuahiwahiwaoNaupaka and Xander Kaleimanakaho'omaika'imaikeakua Helenihi, sister, Alexandra Mokihana (Paul) Doane, and brother Michael Ahemana (Kristle) Spillner, mother, Winona Yin Matsuzaki, and stepmother, Lisa Spillner, numerous uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews, cousins, and many extended families and friends in Hawaii and also Las Vegas. Naupaka, as her family affectionately called her, moved to Las Vegas in 2005 where she met and made many friends. She was employed as a Call Center Service Supervisor at the Wynn/Encore Resort for eight years. She was very active in the "world of sports" and especially softball where her daughters played competitively with the Lil Rebels and Las Vegas Punishers organizations, and with the Island Angels team in Hawaii. Naupaka had a big heart and would do anything to help her family, friends and the children that hung at the softball field. She will be dearly missed. A Celebration of Life for her will be held Saturday, July 14, at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel, Visitation at 1:00pm and Memorial Service at 2:00p.m.

Laurence Stuart Shohet
71, passed away on June 23, 2018 after a 10-year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in Yonkers, New York, earned a bachelor's degree at SUNY-Buffalo, and earned his Master in Social Work at University of Hawaii-Manoa. He positively affected the lives of many populations in New York, Massachusetts, and Hawaii as a tireless and effective social worker. In Hawaii, he worked as an administrator at Halawa High Security Prison and then at both Barber's Point Naval Air Station and Naval Station Pearl Harbor. He is survived by Sheryl Shohet, daughter Heather Shohet, brother Jeffrey (Linda) Shohet, half-brother Brian (Regina) Shaw, half-sister Cathy Shaw-Kalloo, nieces Emily and Jennifer Shaw, and nephews David (Kari) and Brian Shohet. No memorial service is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimers' Association or to the Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.

61, lost his battle with cancer on 6/20/18. He was born on 12/23/56 to Marland Kruse and Edna Park Kruse. He is survived by his sisters Patricia Lowry, Marilyn Murray, Sandra Felisiano; nephews/nieces and many friends. Carl grew up in Ewa Beach, later moved to Honolulu and loved his trips to Las Vegas. He worked for Outrigger Hotels for 33 years. Private services.

He retired as a heavy equipment operator with the Navy Public Works at Barber's Point and Central Transportation in Wahiawa as a bus driver. He is survived by his sons John C. Sumile, Jr., Norman (Pam) Llanos; daughters Jody (Bob) Ortogero, Liz (Stanley) Ormita, Marisa (Ed) Cadiente, Jerilyn (Manuel, Sr.) Ballesteros, Davelyn Llanos; brother Joe (Maggie) Sumile; sister Francisca (Jesse) Torres; 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5:15 pm Monday July 9, 2018 at Mililani Memorial Park's Mauka Chapel followed by eulogy at 6:15 pm and wake service at 6:30 pm. Casual attire. Flowers welcome.

86, of Pearl City, a U.S. Air Force veteran, retired equipment specialist for Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard and member of NARFE, passed away on May 26, 2018, at Straub Clinic and Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Michelle (Steve) Whaley; stepdaughters, Robin Yamamoto, Jan (Barry) Herneisey, Carol Yamamoto (partner, Lacie Kenolio) and Sandra Yamamoto; sisters, Betsy Tsuhako, Toyoko Nagamine and Lynn Tamashiro; and by two grandchildren.
