MILDRED MATSUDA SHINDO, “MILLIE”

MILDRED MATSUDA SHINDO, MILDRED MATSUDA SHINDO, MILLIE 90, a loving and compassionate mother, passed away at Pearl City Nursing Home on May 3. Born in Hilo and raised in Honaunau, Kona, Hawaii. She moved to Oahu after graduating from Konawaena High School in 1945 to pursue a career in education. She met and married Larry "Koji" Miyasato and had (3) children. Millie & Larry both loved to sing and were part of the Chidori Orchestra from 1950's to 1960's. Millie separated from Larry in 1965 and they later divorced in 1967. She was employed at Leeward Bus Company and transitioned to MTL, where she retired in 1989 to take care of her husband Gary Shindo until his death in March 1990. They were married for 21 years. To keep herself busy she volunteered at Radio KZOO (1996-2006) and began singing once again with various karaoke clubs and organizations. She was a member of the Moiliili Hongwanji. A special MAHALO to Island Nursing Home for making mom part of your Ohana from 2015- 2017. She had a wonderful life surrounded by people that loved and cared for her during a difficult time in her life. She is survived by: Claire (Edward) Postma, Cynthia (Keith) Uyehara, Denny (Carlyn) Miyasato; step-sons, Roy (Karen) Shindo, Guy (Waynette) Shindo; 7 grand- children; sister, Clara Uechi.
