Richard E. Hansen

Richard E. HansenNov. 30, 1931 to Jan. 2, 2018 Richard "Dick" Hansen, 86, was born in Tilden, Nebraska, to Otto and Pearl (Radke) Hansen. The student athlete played baseball for and graduated from UCLA in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, and was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He then served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force's Air Intelligence Service Squadron. Dick then began a long career of helping people via the insurance industry and joined Aetna Life & Casualty in Tacoma, Wash., which led him to move to Oahu to manage the company's Honolulu office. He continued his career with New England Life, affiliated with First Insurance Co., as well as Hawaiian Life Insurance Company, Triad Insurance Agency and King & Neel, Inc. Dick was a highly skilled athlete and dedicated sports fan. He excelled in baseball and basketball while at UCLA and also enjoyed beach volleyball on the sun-soaked California sand. Later in life, he remained active by playing tennis, golf and softball. He is survived by wife Kanoe, son Michael (Jacquelyn) Hansen, daughters Kathleen Galdeira, Patricia (Oscar) De Masi and Jacinda Elias, and six grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held via an informal baseball game on Tuesday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. at Kahala District Park's baseball field. Both players and spectators are welcome.

MAY HATSUE KITAGAWA OKAZAKI93, of Honolulu, HI, passed away peacefully on Nov. 19, 2017. She was born on Hawaii Island to John Y. and Mitsuru Kitagawa. She loved children and taught at Lunalilo Elementary. After retirement, she found a second calling with Project Dana assisting frail elderly and their caregivers. She was a past president of the Hawaii Betsuin Buddhist Women's Association. She enjoyed travel, spending time with her grand- children, and hosting gatherings at her home. Survivors include husband Buzzy T. Okazaki; daughter Cynthia Tae Alm (Robbie); granddaughters Kristin Alm Kamakahi (David), Rachel Alm; brother Jackie (May) Kitagawa; sisters Ethel Kitagawa, Grace Kitagawa. Predeceased by sister Helen (Kitagawa) Hongo. Memorial service on Sat, Feb. 17, 1:00 pm, Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, 1727 Pali Hwy (entrance on Lusitana St). No flowers. Age 70, of Kaunakakai, passed away January 30, 2018 at Castle Medical Center in Kailua, Oahu. He was born May 8, 1947 in Honolulu and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and recipient of the Purple Heart. He is survived by wife, Kehau; son, Christian "Chris"; daughters, Nalia Yasso and Aspen Wallwork; 8 grandchildren and 1 great- grandson. Services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the Kaunakakai Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
