She retired from the Department of Education after teaching at Hickam and Aliamanu elementary schools. She and her late husband, Sadao, lived in Moanalua Gardens subdivision for over 50 years and were active in the Moanalua Gardens Community Association. IRIS AND RUTTON (RON) PESTONJEE IRIS RUTTON (RON) PESTONJEE Beloved couple Iris Pestonjee, 84 and Rutton (Ron) Pestonjee, 92 passed away on September 15 and 22, 2017, respectively. They moved from Sri Lanka to Honolulu, Hawaii in 1972. Iris taught science at St. Francis High School. Ron was a realtor and travel agent. They are survived by their children Noshir (Jennifer) Pestonjee and Kashmira (George Somers) Reid and four grandchildren: Maya, Kiana, Kiran and Michael. A service and joint celebration of their lives will be announced closer to the date.

RYDER KALANI ONOPARyder Kalani Onopa, MD passed away from cancer on August 17, 2017. He died peacefully at home in Maunawili valley in the arms of his family. He was thirty years old. Ryder graduated from Punahou School in 2005, Columbia University in 2009 and from the John A Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii in 2014. His life was short but full and rich, marked by excellence in everything he did, kindness and thoughtfulness and courage. He had a loving and philosophical temperament and an exceptional scientific mind. He touched many people. He is survived by his parents, Janet and Bob Onopa, his brother, Alex Onopa, his beloved dog Sky, and a loving extended family of aunties, uncles, and cousins. A public service will be held to honor his life and legacy at the Punahou Thurston Memorial Chapel on Saturday October 21, 2017. Visitation starts at 1:00 p.m., services at 2:30 p.m., refreshments to follow. Please enter the main gate at Punahou and Wilder to park. Please, no funeral floral arrangements. In place of flowers, friends are welcome to donate to one of Ryder's choices for charitable support: The John A Burns School of Medicine (through giving.uhfoundation.org, at the Dr. Ryder K. She was treasured by her family and well loved by all who knew her. She was the most giving person you've ever met that was always doing for others and cherished her family above all else. She will be remembered most for her kindness, generous spirit and dedication to her family. She will be missed more than words could ever describe. Wai Mun ChungHusband, father, grand-father and best friend, Wai Mun Chung, 85, passed away on 8/05/2017 at Queens Hospital. He was born in Honolulu to Ah Mee Goo & Mun Kan Chung. An accountant by trade, he started out at Coopers & Lybrand as an intern. He subsequently served as Secretary-Treasurer at Inter-Island Resorts for many years until it's closing and then worked at Finance Realty as Treasurer before finally retiring. Despite leaving the work force 20 years ago, he maintained cherished friendships with his former co-workers right up to the end. He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Kam); brother, Bowman (of Sterling Heights, MI); sister, Leatrice (of Chicago, IL); sons, Stephen, Gerald, Michael (Pei Mian), Kerwin (Stephanie), and Nathan (Joy); and by grandchildren, Katherine, Alyssa, & Jonah. A private celebration of life service was held in his honor.

Robert Robert "Bob" Grant Poulson, 68, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 24, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jacki Poulson, his children Elias (Venesha), Nellie Foster (George), Esther Poulson, and grandchildren Gabe, Isla, Rogue, Charlotte, Cattleya, and Alistair, as well as many extended family members. Bob was born in Los Angeles, CA to Clarence and Doretha Poulson. He moved to Roscoe Illinois when he was 11 and graduated from Hononegah High School in 1967. Bob went to college in LA where he majored in art with a minor in photography. In 1974 Bob returned to Roscoe where he married his childhood friend Jacki Cummings. In 1979 the Poulson's moved to Hawaii, and spent seven years on the island of Hawaii before moving to Maui. In 1986 Bob and his dear friend Daryl formed Arita/Poulson General Contracting at a time when Maui was growing and changing. They were able to serve the community and build and remodel many structures around the island including schools, banks, shops, hotels, restaurants, healthcare facilities, and community centers. Bob could often be seen working along with his employees, teaching young people from diverse backgrounds, and forming many deep, lasting friendships in the community. Arita/Poulson has since expanded, received multiple awards in excellence, and serves the community state-wide with a second office in Oahu. Bob was a member of the Living Word Fellowship Church, where he was an associate pastor at Hale O Na Kaula Church on Maui. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, playing with his grandchildren, working outside, and tending his yard. Bob will be remembered for his love, patience, kindness, generosity, and willingness to always help others. He was a man of faith, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends. A public memorial service will be held on Friday October 20th, 2017 at Pukalani Community Center between 4-6 PM. Light refreshments and pupus will be provided.

Survived by wife, Dominga Calaro Maghanoy; sons Louis (Liza) Maghanoy, Jr., Leroy (Nora) Maghanoy, Glen Maghanoy; daughters Janet Fulton, Pamela (Dan) Barrows, Eloise (Jerry) Barthel, Claudia Dela Cruz and Ramona Tejada, 34 grand- children, 68 great-grandchildren and 44 great-great-grandchildren. She worked as a school secretary at Kilohana and Maunaloa Elementary Schools. After her marriage, she moved to Honolulu and worked in the DOE business office. She later worked as an account clerk at Moanalua H.S. and Moanalua Adult Ed. before retiring in 1999. She and her husband spent sometime traveling. She enjoyed doing crafts and caring for her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Robert Clarke Paoa; daughter, Robin (Shannon) Au; son, Boyd (Jana deceased) Paoa; grand- children, Tyson and Drew Paoa; sisters, Napua Silva and Haunani Meyer both of Molokai; nieces, nephews and cousins. Leland S. LELAND S. NAKAKURA 52, of Aiea, passed away on Sept. 9, 2017. Leland, also known as "Mr. Aloha," worked for Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits of Hawaii as an On-Premise Sales Support Manager. He loved well and deep, was extremely generous and fiercely loyal in the way he cared for his family and friends. He always had a bright smile and twinkle in his eye, and will be remembered for his hilarious sense of humor and practical jokes. He was a fisherman, triathlete, avid skier, wine connoisseur, chef, sports dad, ukulele aficionado wanna-be and all-around amazing human being. As a recent citizen of Heaven, he leaves behind treasured memories in our hearts and will be missed immensely by all who loved him. He is survived by his wife Jeri, son Noah and dog Kiana; mother Jean Nakakura and sister Shari Nakakura (Barclay Lew). He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Nakakura, in 2016. Leland's Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017 at Diamond Head Mortuary Chapel. Visitation: 3:00 p.m.; Services: 5:00 p.m..
