97, passed away peacefully at Islands Hospice Palolo home on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. He was born on July 21, 1919 in Kona, where he grew up and graduated from Konawaena High School. After graduating from the University of Hawaii, he married Sueko Hokada and moved to Pahoa on the Big Island to start teaching agriculture at Pahoa High & Elementary School. He built his family home and grew many fruits and flowers on his acreage. He retired from teaching after 32 years at the same school and became a tour bus driver for another 30 years. He loved to sing to his Japanese tourists. He also loved playing golf. His beloved wife, Sue passed on last year and he missed her dearly. Kongo is survived by daughter, Laraine Yasui, son, Bruce Kimura, daughter, Christine Kimura, 6 grandchildren, Yvette (Erik Aronesty) Yasui, Ryan (Kara) Yasui, Claudine (Gordon Yoshiki) Kimura, Kazu (Audrey) Hernandez, Desmonne (Brian) Bennett, Kimberly Borges-Ono and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by daughter Karen Kimura (Michael Hillis). Celebration of Life service will be held at Borthwick Mortuary at 1330 Maunakea St. Honolulu on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. Visitation at 4 pm. Service at 5:00 pm followed by refreshments. Parking entrance on Kukui St. No flowers, casual attire.

LILY SACHIKO (MATSUMOTO) SHIGEZAWALily Sachiko (Matsumoto) Shigezawa, 86, of Honolulu died from pneumonia on March 14, 2017 at Queen's Hospital. She graduated from McKinley High School and the University of Hawaii. One of her first jobs was at the Richards St. YWCA where she met many of her life-long friends. Lily worked for the State Department of Health for almost 30 years, and retired as a data analyst for the Health Information Systems Office in 1994. After retiring she was a volunteer tutor at Wailupe Valley Elementary and obtained her black belt in Karate. Until her death Lily was busy working in her daughter's medical office, practicing Japanese Calligraphy, and working out at the gym. Lily was an avid golfer and member of BESCO Dept. of Health Golf Club and SC Retiree's/ HGEA Retiree's Golf Club #2. She is survived by daughter Allison Shigezawa (Richard Podolny), grandchildren Mikio, Kai, and Maya VanDrunen, and sister Hilda (Tony) Miyasaka. She was preceded in death by daughter Pamela Shigezawa and sister Ruth (Thomas) Yamabe. Lily requested no funeral services.
