Juanita Aluanu “Carol” Kapu

Juanita Aluanu Carol, 83 of Hana, Maui passed away on January 15, 2017 in Kahului, Maui surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on July 11, 1933 to Samuel K. Kapu, Sr. and Juanita A. Guerrero Kapu in Honolulu. Carol was a graduate of Kamehameha Schools class of 1952. She worked at First Insurance in Honolulu, then moved to Wyoming, Iowa and Minnesota where she taught the hula. After returning to Hawaii, she became the social director at Hotel Hana Maui. When she retired, she made her beloved Hana home until her passing. Carol is survived by her Punahele, Roback J. Boise Kawaiaea; daughter, Ann Gilbert; sons, Michael (Angel) Gilbert of Virginia and Kawai'ola (Anna) Wolfgramm; sisters Nani (Ernie) Chan and Dutchie Saffery; brother Sam K. Kapu, Jr.; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Carol's life will be held at Bishop Memorial Chapel, Kamehameha Schools on Saturday February 4, 2017. Public Visitation: 10:00 a.m. Memorial Service: 11:00 am with Fellowship/lunch to follow. She was also remembered at a service held January 25, 2017 in Kahului, Maui.

Preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Edward Ching. Phyllis was an amazing cook, seamstress, quilter, loved crafts & playing ukulele. She loved being a mom to their 4 kids, then worked at Highlands Child Care Ctr for 20 yrs & faithfully attended Kahikuonalani Church for over 40 yrs. Her generous spirit & sense of humor will be truly missed by all that knew her. He is survived by parents Thomas and Shirley Battisto, brother Thomas and preceded in death by his twin brother Kirk. Russell was an advocate for the homeless and less fortunate and worshipped at New Hope. Celebration of Life Service: Saturday, Feb 4 @ 11:00am at Kailua Boat Ramp Pavillion. Spreading of ashes and lunch to follow.

Robert "Bob" Keonaona Akong Hee passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2017. Born on May 6, 1935. He was raised in Honolulu and graduated from Farrington High School and the University of Hawaii. After high school he served in the Marines towards the end of the Korean War. He returned to Honolulu to attend and graduated from the University of Hawaii Manoa. It was there that he met his wife Ginny. In his later years, bob worked for the Circuit Court as a Business Officer and then later as a Business Manager at Mid-Pacific Institute. Bob was a talented athlete and excellent at baseball and volleyball. His hobbies included surfing, gardening and helping others. He enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas with his wife Ginny and visiting his grandchildren in San Jose, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife Ginny, Bob is survived by his daughter, Jana (Timothy Rogers); son Marc (Sherrie Takaki); beloved grandchildren Quin, Margaux and Chelsea Rogers; sisters: Ruth, Violet and Diane; sisters-in-law Claire (Alvin) Ho, Catherine (Lowell) Chun-Hoon; hanai sister-in-law, Gail Martin; brother, John (Dee) Hee and brother-in-law Louis (Kathleen) Kau; nephews and nieces; grandnieces and grandnephews and hanai nieces and nephew. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, February 6, 2017 at 9 a.m. at the Newman Center, 1941 East-West Road, Honolulu. Following the Mass a graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. at the Diamond Head Memorial Park (area nearest 22nd Avenue) 529 18th Avenue, Honolulu.
