Robert Hiroshi Mizuno
Robert "Bob" Hiroshi Mizuno passed away peacefully in his sleep early in the morning of December 1, 2016 after an extended illness. Bob was born in Honolulu in 1924, and attended Lanakila Elementary School, Central Intermediate, and graduated from McKinley High School in 1943. After graduation, he joined The Honolulu Star Bulletin as a staff photographer and in 1947 switched to the Honolulu Advertiser. From 1948 Bob continued as a weekend stringer photographer for the Advertiser until the late 1960s. In 1948, Bob joined the Honolulu City and County Department of Parks and Recreation, where he remained until his retirement after 44 years. Bob was also an active and conscientious representative and steward for the Hawaii Government Employees Association (HGEA). Bob is survived by his wife, Michie; two sons, Geary and Gregg; two daughters, Cathy Hayashi and Sharon Mizuno, grandchildren, Kimberly, Jeffrey, Leila, and Samantha, and great- granddaughter, Kealani. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 4:00 at Hosoi Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Trust for Public Land - Hawaii, Nature Conservancy of Hawaii, or to other Hawaii organizations that protect the Hawaiian forests and ocean. Born in Honolulu, he was a retired electrician and Nuclear General Forman for Shop 51 at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard on Oahu, a retired electrician from Hilo Hawaiian Hotel, a member of Na Ali'i Golf Club, Banyan Bay Golf Club, and a veteran of the U.S. Army's "Big Red One 1st Infantry Division." Visitation from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Saturday (January 21, 2017) at the Bernice Pauahi Bishop Memorial Chapel at Kamehameha Schools Kapalama on Oahu; a celebration of his life will begin at 3:30.
