$nameGERTRUDE TERUKO YOGI Gertrude Teruko Yogi, 96, of Honolulu, Hawaii passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 18, 2016. She was born on September 27, 1919 in Haiku, Maui, the daughter of Ushi and Kama Inafuku. Gertrude married Henry Yogi in December of 1942 in Honolulu, Hawaii. They were married for almost 59 years. Henry preceded her in death on August 19, 2001 and her son Tenney on Novembr 23, 2014. Gertrude went to school on the mainland and became an electrologist, one of the first in Honolulu. She operated her own business in downtown Honolulu. She had thousands of clients during her over 30 years of active practice. She often assisted the disabled or mentally challenged with their hair removal needs free of charge. Gertrude loved to cook for the entire family during festive occasions. She loved her garden at the family home along the Kalihi Stream. She raised flowers and fruits, which she freely shared with anyone visiting. Gertrude always expressed her love and pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Gertrude became a Christian in the early 1970s. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She was cheerful, kind and generous to all those around her. Surviving her are her son Nolan Yogi (Dorothy) of Honolulu and daughter Mona Garberg (Gary) of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughter-in-law Diane Yogi of Honolulu; two sisters Evelyn Perry and Sumiko Inafuku; Grandchildren Rayna Martinez, Tiffany Hinazumi, David Yogi and Jonathan Yogi; Great Grand- children Chase Yogi, Brea Martinez, Cade Martinez, Skye Hinazumi, Emie Hinazumi and Kara Hinazumi. A Memorial and celebration of Gertrude's life will be conducted on May 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m., visitation to begin at 9:00 a.m. at Hosoi Garden Mortuary located at 30 North Kukui Street, Honolulu. A private burial will be conducted at the Hawaiian Memorial Park.
