$nameANNA LEINANI KAY CAMPBELL JABER Anna Leinani Jaber, age 85, of Honolulu, formerly of Hilo, Hawaii and Ewa Beach, Oahu, passed away February 13 at Lunalilo Home in Hawaii Kai, Oahu. Anna was born on February 21, 1930 in Honolulu, Hawaii, and was a life-long resident of Hawaii. She grew up in Kaimuki and was a graduate of Sacred Hearts Academy. Anna enjoyed entertaining her family and friends with her love of Hawaiian music and her exquisite grace and beauty of the hula. She was an accomplished stock car racer and a pioneer in the Wahine division of NASCAR stock car racing at Honolulu Stadium in the 1950's. "Racing is a wonderful sport," she would say, with the support of her first husband, Charles Campbell, as her pit crew manager. Anna drove her No. 77 Fisher Corporation sponsored Ford to many victories and a few spectacular crashes into the wall. Some would say Anna never knew when to stop, but nothing could faze this wahine and role model for all women. Anna persevered - "That's the way to win" she would say - and that she did. Anna was a competitive golfer, winning on the links, too. She often shot the low round with the men with whom she played. Anna was a member of Hawaii Country Club. When not racing or playing golf, Anna volunteered her time in the community, including at various charity golfing events and at Saint Francis Medical Center-West. Anna worked at Fisher Corporation early in her career and then at Big Three Industries in the Ewa Beach Sales Group before her retirement. Anna is survived by her son, Richard W. Campbell (Mahealani) of Kaneohe, Hawaii; her granddaughters, Mahinahinaokamahealani McCamey (Jason) of Tracey, California and La'akeaokamahealani Campbell of Kaneohe, Hawaii; sister Sally J. Malterre of Honolulu, Hawaii; step sons Carl J. Jaber (Marsha) of Surprise, Arizona, Calvin R. Jaber (Sharon) of Wilmington, Delaware, Clayton M. Jaber of Scottsdale, Arizona; step daughter Carol N. Lothringer of Austin, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Anna also leaves behind her special, beloved nephew William 'Dutchie" Kay of Kailua, Oahu. Dutchie visited Anna weekly for many years to play Hawaiian slack key guitar and ukulele and sing old Hawaiian songs. Anna would sing along, too, and occasionally, with such grace and beauty, dance the hula. Anna was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles B. Campbell; her second husband, Carl C. Jaber; her father, Captain LeRoy Kay, Sr.; her mother, Nani Akiona; her brothers, LeRoy Kay, Jr., Emmet Kay, and William "Billy" Kay; sister Clara Osorio; and step son L. Paul Jaber. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Anna's life on Friday, February 26 at Nuuanu Memorial Park and Mortuary. Visitation will be at 5:00 PM and services at 6:00 PM with a reception to follow. Aloha attire. Inurnment will be at Diamond Head Memorial Park on Saturday, February 27 at 9:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, please consider giving to the Alzheimer's Association in your community.
