$nameWAYNE EARL COSTA, SR. November 17, 1943 - December 8, 2015 After a long battle, Wayne Earl Costa, Sr. passed away on December 8, 2015 at his home in Waianae. Wayne was born and raised in Kuliouou on his family's Waialae Nui Farm. Kuliouou was a tight-knit neighborhood and he considered his neighbors his extended family. At 19, he started Wayne's Dairy by purchasing 26 cows and milking them at his uncles Walter and Lawrence Carlos' Red Hill farm. At that time, Oahu had 50 small dairy farms. Over the next 40 years, Wayne's Dairy would relocate to Pupukea, Sunset Beach, Nanakuli and finally Lualualei Valley in Waianae. Wayne loved being a dairy farmer and Wayne's Dairy continued until he retired and made a last milk delivery on Dec. 25, 2002. By then, Wayne's Dairy had over 500 cows and was one of just two family owned dairy farms left on Oahu. He was a member of the 50th State Dairy Farmers Coop and served for many years on its Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Hawaii Farm Bureau, the Hawaii Cattleman's Association, the Pork Producers Coop and an original member of the Green Feed Cooperative. He was instrumental in writing the 1967 Hawaii Milk Control Act and worked on many political campaigns on behalf of Hawaii agriculture. He was most proud of his family, loved travelling and especially loved the San Francisco 49ers. He was famous for wearing 49er gear and attended many 49er games in San Francisco. He was so very happy to have recently attended two games with his entire family at the new Levi's Stadium. His grandfather owned racehorses in his youth and attending horseraces was another favorite pastime, especially at Hollywood Park and Golden Gate Fields in California. Wayne attended Star of the Sea School and St. Louis School. His father, Walter, and his four sons, Buddy (Roxanne) '85, Wayne '88, Thayne (Mandy) '90 and Dwayne (Selena) '94, also attended St. Louis. He has one daughter, Shantel (Scott) Burns a 1982 graduate of St. Francis School. Born in Hartford, CT Jack was a tenured professor of child psychiatry at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor before moving to Honolulu with his family in 1969 to help establish the UH School of Medicine and found its Department of Psychiatry where he served as Professor and Chair for 25 years. A voracious reader and world traveler Jack had an endless curiosity about people and history. He embraced Hawai`i's myriad cultures, making the understanding of social and cultural influences on mental health and treatment a core mission of his work locally, nationally and internationally. He was a gifted writer and speaker who wrote 12 books and hundreds of scientific papers along with popular analyses of films like Star Wars and the poet Emily Dickinson, and the book "Raising Cain (and Abel too): The Parents Book of Sibling Rivalry". He was Editor in Chief of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and introduced child psychiatry to Indonesia, later heading the Child Psychiatry section of the World Psychiatric Association. Frank Rodrigues III

$nameCELEBRATION OF LIFE SERVICES FRANK RODRIGUES III On December 14, 2015 our loving Father took Frank's hand guiding him to his everlasting home. The journey was sudden but we are comforted in the knowledge that Frank now sits with the Lord singing praises of worship with his melodic voice. Frank and his loving wife Connie shared 45 years of marriage and were blessed with a daughter, Dionne. Their hearts continue to be warmed and comforted by their many memories and Frank's life lessons. He is also survived by his sister, DaisyMae Clark, nieces and nephews and his beloved doggies Ewok and Muppet. Frank was a wonderful husband and proud father supporting Connie and Dionne in their dreams and ambitions. He saw Dionne graduate with a Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design from the Art Institute in June 2015 and always encouraged her to pursue her dreams. As Connie's right hand, he was always there to assist with errands and tasks allowing her to focus on her Real Estate career at Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties. Connie receiving her Aloha Aina Award is a testament to them both. Frank served our great nation and after returning home from Vietnam in the late 1960's worked in the construction industry. He was a foreman for Highway Construction Company for many years before retiring in 2002. Frank was an active participant at the Veterans Center in Kapolei where he helped support other Vietnam era veterans dealing with war-related issues like PTSD. He recently became a proud member of the Veteran of Foreign War and had the pleasure of attending their 2015 Christmas Luncheon the day before his passing. Frank enjoyed playing the guitar and ukulele while singing Hawaiian and Christian songs but his passion was being in the ocean. For the last several years, he made the trek from Makakilo to Diamond Head, where he made many wonderful friends. He loved the water, camaraderie, and definitely the lunches after a great beach session. Frank was a great friend to many. Relatives, friends, and neighbors could always count on him to lend and ear or helping hand. He always seemed to know exactly what to say and do. He would never say "no" when someone asked him for help, but he might ask you to wait a bit if it interfered with surfing. Frank's bright and welcoming smile and joyful disposition made others feel comfortable around him and he made new friends wherever he went. Frank will be sorely missed but has blessed the lives of many, both family and friends, with love, compassion, support, and joyful memories. Connie and Dionne know that Frank is with God, smiling down on all of the lives he touched making sure you were paying attention to his life lessons and saying "God loves you and I love you, but gosh there's no surfing in Heaven!" Celebration of Life Services to be held at the Borthwick Mortuary (Maunakea Chapel) on Saturday, Jan. 9th, 9:00am. Private burial services will be held on Monday, Jan. 11th, 11:00am at the National Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe.
