Lyle Edmund “Gunner” Wentela, 73, of Waianae, a retired city wastewater plant operator and a Navy veteran who served in the Vietnam War as a submariner, died in Honolulu. He was born in Nisula, Mich. He is survived by wife Patricia H. “Patsy”; son Matthew E.K.; daughter Theresa A.L. Paaluhi; hanai daughter Kapiolani Kauihana; brothers Robert, Bruce and John; sisters Marylou Giacoletto, Sylvia Wentela and Cecila Shortsoef; and four grandchildren. Visitation: 10 a.m. Feb. 21 at Mililani Mortuary-Waipio, mauka chapel. Services: 11 a.m. Aloha attire. No flowers.
